Innovator opportunities at UK – China Healthy Ageing Accelerator
An accelerator programme for high-growth companies in the healthy ageing sector has opened applications for its next cohort.
The UK-China Healthy Ageing Accelerator, which is led by the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA) and delivered with Oxford Innovation Advice, is seeking 10 innovative UK companies offering technologies, products or services that actively support healthy longevity and quality of life.
Hosted in Newcastle at The Catalyst – home to the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing and the National Innovation Centre for Data – the theme of the free accelerator programme is ‘adaptions to the urban environment’ and focuses on all aspects of business growth, examining the healthy ageing marketplace with emphasis on the fast-growing longevity market in China and opportunities this offers UK companies.
Successful applicants will benefit from nine weeks of tailored support from experts across the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, the Department for International Trade and the China Britain Business Council, which will help business leaders capitalise on opportunities to fuel business growth.
Professor Lynne Corner, from the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, said: “We are delighted to welcome businesses interested in the huge commercial opportunities for products and services which support healthy ageing – and helping understand what is needed to succeed”
The first cohort completed the accelerator last December, with a second group of businesses currently undertaking the programme and deriving significant benefit.
The funding for the programme is provided through the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Fund for International Collaboration by Innovate UK, a council of UK Research and Innovation.
Amelia Findlay, centre manager at The Catalyst, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the businesses taking part in the Healthy Ageing Accelerator.
“It’s fantastic to see the collaborative nature of this programme and to welcome entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the country to The Catalyst and the North East region. Participants have loved Newcastle and all it has to offer, from our vibrant city centre to the innovative work that takes place here at Newcastle Helix.
“We wish the current group undertaking the programme all the best as they apply their learning to support business growth, and we encourage other innovators to apply for this brilliant opportunity.”
Registration for the next Healthy Ageing Accelerator closes on 2 February 2023.
