Inspired by original reporting from Newcastle University’s Newcastle Innovations team

A pioneering health technology company based at The Catalyst, Gnosis Health, has secured £1.1 million in funding to accelerate the development of its digital solution aimed at transforming the management of Parkinson’s disease.

The investment marks an important milestone for the Newcastle University and Plymouth University spin-out, as it continues to move from academic research into real-world healthcare impact.

Advancing Patient-Centred Digital Healthcare

At the heart of Gnosis Health’s work is MAXine, an AI-powered digital healthcare assistant designed to support people living with Parkinson’s disease.

MAXine brings together data from wearable devices, patient-reported outcomes and behavioural patterns to provide real-time insights for both patients and clinicians. By enabling continuous monitoring, the platform supports better self-management while improving communication with care teams.

This approach addresses a critical gap in Parkinson’s care, where symptoms can fluctuate daily but clinical interactions are often limited.

Backed by Strong Investment and Regional Support

The £1.1m funding package includes backing from Northstar Ventures, SFC Capital, and Innovate UK, alongside support from the wider North East innovation ecosystem.

Initiatives such as the North East Spinout Inspire Fund and Northern Accelerator have played a key role in helping companies like Gnosis Health transition from early-stage research into commercial ventures.

From Research to Real-World Impact

Gnosis Health brings together expertise in artificial intelligence, software engineering and clinical research to tackle one of healthcare’s most pressing challenges—improving the management of chronic conditions.

With more than 150,000 people in the UK living with Parkinson’s, the need for more responsive and personalised care is clear. Early findings suggest that continuous digital monitoring solutions like MAXine could improve patient outcomes while also reducing care costs.
