TSA Chief Executive Alyson Scurfield Awarded OBE for Technology Enabled Care Leadership
Recognising national leadership in care innovation from our Catalyst community
We’re delighted to celebrate fantastic news from our community at The Catalyst, Newcastle, as Alyson Scurfield, Chief Executive of the TEC Services Association (TSA), has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Alyson has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to technology enabled care (TEC)—a sector that supports millions of people across the UK to live independently and safely in their homes.
Since becoming Chief Executive of TSA in 2013, Alyson has led a significant transformation of the organisation, growing it into a national advisory body that represents more than 350 organisations spanning health, housing, and social care. TSA plays a vital role in working with local authorities, housing providers, care organisations, and technology partners to improve both the quality and delivery of care services.
Among Alyson’s many achievements is the development of the UKAS-accredited Quality Standards Framework, which has strengthened safety, consistency, and accountability across the sector and now supports the majority of people using TEC services across the country. She has also been instrumental in addressing the safe transition from analogue to digital telephone systems, helping to ensure telecare users remain protected during this nationwide change.
In addition, Alyson supported the launch of the Virtual Home training resource, equipping thousands of professionals with the knowledge to better understand and implement TEC solutions in real-world care settings.
Beyond her role at TSA, Alyson also serves as Chair of Age UK North Tyneside and brings over 20 years of experience across local government, housing, and care.
Speaking about the award, Alyson shared her pride in the sector and the people driving it forward, highlighting the essential role TEC plays in easing pressure on the NHS, strengthening community care, and enabling people to live well at home.
Her recognition has been widely welcomed across the industry, with colleagues praising her leadership, vision, and commitment to ensuring that technology remains focused on improving real lives—enhancing independence, dignity, and connection for those who rely on care services.
As TSA is based here at The Catalyst, we are incredibly proud to see Alyson’s achievements recognised at a national level. Her work continues to make a meaningful difference both locally in the North East and across the UK.
